The Galapagos archipelago forms a giant upwelling, born of fire, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With this cold-water upwelling come nutrients. And with them, all sorts of creatures who benefit from this rich volcanic anomaly. You can encounter wildlife from as huge as the whale shark (the biggest fish) to the diminutive Galapagos penguin – a complete surprise here on the Equator.
